In what ways does your media product use, develop or change forms and conventions of real media products?

We planned to make sure that, the film that we produce would have to be the same as most thriller films in the film industry. This would then guide us to bring the features of a thriller. This would also make the connection to our audience good and easy. It would make then understand the method in which we have used and why we use it.David Flincher’s se7en was a huge inspiration to us, we have use similar techniques used in se7en to make our film. Se7en was a huge success as the audience understood the purpose of the film and the techniques used in the film. This makes it all easy for the audience to connect with the film. Using these conventions made our films look professional and easy to understand also made it look recognisable.

The lighting and other factors that we controlled made the film seem like an original and traditional thriller film. This would also make it easy to understand and easy to know what the film is about. This would give the audience a clear understanding before the characters speak. The dialogue used in the film is used in some of the most successful thriller films. This helped us create a connection with our films and other great thriller films. Being able to alter these factors helped us control the outcome of our film.

How does your media product present particular social groups?

The social group we decided to communicate to our thriller are the normal stereotypical group. This is one such as men being the heroes in films and being portrayed as strong, intelligent and brave. These are the typical roles that a male would play in a stereotype society. This is what we have decided to go with. This is what the public are used and have had growing up watching films. Although some females in other thriller films are portrayed as that, we decided to go with a male that would lead in our film.

To match the type of hero we have decided to go with. We made the villain a male as well. This would represent man in different ways. This would show the positives and negative also the weaknesses and strength of man. This is what also helped us attract female audience. Having a male figure in our film. The features that our male villain will portray are strength, but he is also a methodical character, this is the same as John Doe in David Finches se7en.

To make sure that we follow the props character theory, we decided to have two heroes and a villain in our film. This would not only how this theory. However, it would show the strengths our villain has. We chose to subvert the typical social stereotypes of a thriller so we used binary composition. This would not only capture the target audience that we set our eyes on but, it would prove to show good understanding to others audiences.

Our characters are good examples of presenting different social groups. This is because on of out our detectives is older than the other. This would show different levels of intelligence within the two detectives. This is good as different ideas amongst the detective’s.one of our detectives was 25-30 and the other being much older. This is the traditional detective’s partnerships in films. We did this to show that we are aware of what attracts different audiences. We wanted to have the mix of the two detectives with one being around the job for a long time showing he has great maturity and wisdom on what kind of job he does. This will attract the much older audience as they would have lived for long and would have the same features as our older detective. The other detective being  young. This shows the immaturity in society. This would represent the younger generation our thriller would appeal to.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

We have different types of media institutions that would distribute our film. We can also use these institutions as an advertising film to attract the attentions of big film firms. This can only be done when we achieve enough recognition the media world. We can start of by using cheap and free media institutions to distribute our film. This would get us the recognition that we deserves. We can use YouTube and 1channel.com. This would be one of the best methods that we could use to make sure that our film gets enough feedback and also recognition.

We can also distribute our film in another way. We can use face book and other social networks to distribute our film. This wouldn't be free and also getting feedback n it wouldn't be hard. Using the internet is the best method as we would be able to hit a wider target audience. This is what we would want to achieve in order for our film to progress in responds and rating. This would then lead to other media institutions wanting to distribute our film as a form of marketing. This would be useful to use as our film would be travelling around.

The moment all of this is completed and we have enough reputation in the media world; we would hopefully have been able to gain enough money to make sure that we distribute our film to the larger and popular production companies. The rating and feedback would help us, as they would be positive. This would make big production companies like “new line cinema” to invest in our film and distribute it. This would be good for us, new line cinema produced se7en. This would be a great achievement as we try to implement most of the techniques used in the film se7en to make our film much more thrilling. This would give our film another level of comparison as it would be on the same production line as se7en.

After this stage we would only begin to get more recognition for our film. Once a big production firm decides to distribute our film. Their past success and company image would only want to make more people want to see and get our film. This would only increase the interest from other distributing firms as they would also want to make money. This would help us reach a lot of people in terms of target audiences.  For example, the cinema, blockbuster, Tesco, love film etc. These businesses would want to get our film to also increase their personal status; this in the process would help the reputation of our own film. On the other hand, this would be expensive compared to us doing it through face book and other social networks.

Who would be the audience of your media product?

The audience that we were addressing in our thriller are 15+, this is because many psychological thrillers aim at this target audience. In our plan and research we included this. This was the prime age for our thriller. The age also referrers to the kind of changes someone 15+ would be making in their live at this stage. This is why we decided this age. Marketing wise this is perfect as they would have disposable income and they would be able to watch our film. This is good as they would also have social groups. Another reason to the age group being 15+ is because we would be able to target and wider range of people. This would give us a three year advantage from making our target audience 15 rather than 18. This is also because; there is hardly any violence in our film. This would be suitable for a 15 year old to watch. There is also no death or sexual scenes. Our film is also suitable for both genders as our film as it has muscular expressions and feminine expression. 

How did you attract/ address our audience?

We used different methods in our film to attract our audience. Our target audience were 15+. This is what normal thrillers aim at. To make sure we achieved this. We made sure that our main protagonist was in his twenties. This would attract females to watch our film. We did this because of the physical attraction. This method we know would work because of the success of other films using this method. The strong male figures our character had also made it easy to attract this type of audience. However, this did not just attract females but we thought it would attract teenage males. this is because they would have a male figure to look up to and may even want to copy the characteristics of our character.

The second of our protagonist is much older showing in the film that he has a better maturity In our film. With his age it gives us the chance to capture the older the group of audience that we had planned to capture. This would not only wider our target audience, it will also give them different levels of understanding the thriller as different ages understand things in a different way. This would show to us that we have been able to reach out to all the other demographics.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

When making his media product. We decides to dived the work amongst ourselves. This would make production quicker and effective as we would be able to exploit the strongest skill that we individually have.

I have also used the editing tools to polish our film and get rid of all the errors and unwanted scenes. I used different editing techniques and the effect of it to make sure that we had not mistakes i our film. This helped us make sure that our film matched the storyboard that we created. This can change the view of any film as it would make fun to watch. From this process, we were able to make sure that we make our film look professional and also look good. This does not only add extra credit to the film, but it also makes it interesting to watch. This would make our final piece look good as the film will flow in good sequence.

I used the timeline to make sure that our film was in the right order. This would make editing easy and using transitions to make the film have a professional feel when it changes scenes. This would make our film professional and make people want to see it. When editing I had to keep in mind the importance of the different camera shot and the effects of them. Using different camera angles and movements to convey meaning and narrative. This is important due to the fact that, it would allow the audience to understand what we are trying to achieve by using different camera shots. For example, using an establishing shot to show the setting, the atmosphere of what the scene is taking place. This is also important to the costumes and props. This is done to portray a stereotypical thought of the character.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?  

From the start of his task, i would say that i knew nothing about media and the different techniques required to make a film. I would also say that i had no idea who to make a film and how to take on the different camera effects and other effects to make the film a success. However, as i went along researching. I became familiar and comfortable with the effects and techniques. I then understood how to use them to its best. I would say that the research that i did helped me to understand the different aspect of media.

During the research i studied things like camera angles, the effects of non-diegetic and diegetic sound etc.  This helped me incorporate them into our film. Learning all of these techniques would not only show that   understand them and know how to use them, but it would also get me points when my work gets marked. These techniques are used in thriller such as se7en, so us using it in our film a made it easy for us to attract our target audience also reach out to a wider audience. This keep the audience on the edge of their seat as the film would be thrilling and interesting. This would also make our film look professional in product. This would make the film much more appealing to other production lines.

I also learnt that using different camera angles would keep the audience interested as they all would have different effects to them. This would only mean that the camera angels would bring suspense and thrill to the scene that would be shooting. This would also make the audience wonder why the camera angel would be what it is at that particular scene. This would keep the audience engaged in the film and also make them create some sort of relationship with the film. This was important as, this would be one of the best ways we got the audience to keep going and not fall asleep during the film.
